Piatti
About
December 1990 marked the opening of the very first Piatti restaurant right here in La Jolla Shores, launching what would become a beloved Italian brand with locations stretching from California to Texas. Executive Chef Pepe Ccapatinta arrived on opening day and never left—his decades-long tenure stands as one of the primary reasons for this location's enduring success. The open kitchen centers around a stone-hearth pizza oven turning out blistered pies, while chefs roll, cut, and cook housemade pasta by hand every single day, honoring the trattoria tradition that inspired founder Tim Harmon back in 1987. The atmosphere tells two stories: inside, light and airy décor frames the exhibition kitchen; outside, the legendary tree-covered patio unfolds beneath a towering Ficus that lights up at night, creating an enchanting space for 75 guests. Spinach salad with Honeycrisp apples and cherrywood bacon, butternut squash ravioli in walnut sage cream, stone-hearth pizzas, and house-made tiramisu or affogato for dessert—it all adds up to La Jolla's enduring Italian cornerstone.
