The Venetian Restaurant
About
When Vince Giacalone's bakery failed in the 1960s, the fisherman-turned-restaurateur bought a restaurant space and opened The Venetian in 1965, creating Point Loma's beloved neighborhood institution. The California Restaurant Association recognized his Italian cuisine with multiple Gold Medallions, still displayed inside. Sons Frank and Joe inherited their father's traditions in 2013, continuing to make sausage, soups, and sauces from scratch the way Vince always did. Critics call their pizza—available in thick or thin crust—some of San Diego's best. Add seafood pastas, chicken piccata, and "killer tiramisu" praised by regulars, and you've got Point Loma's "Cheers": a cozy spot where comfy booths, a lively bar, and a covered patio have welcomed generations since relocating to Voltaire Street in 1973.
