Bencotto
About
Milan native Guido Nistri, his wife Valentina Di Pietro, Patrick Daniels, and Chef Fabrizio from Emilia-Romagna's Modena opened Bencotto in 2010, bringing Northern Italian heritage and international restaurant experience to a chic bi-level eatery in Little Italy's "Q" building. The name translates to "done well"—where culinary expertise meets genuine taste. In 2013, Bencotto became the first San Diego restaurant to earn the prestigious "Q" rating from the Italy-America Chamber of Commerce West, global recognition for authentic Italian quality. San Diego Magazine named them Best Italian Restaurant every year since 2010. The secret: 75 different pasta recipes, fresh and hand-crafted 12 hours a day, 1,000 pounds weekly in Chef Fabrizio's laboratory. Diners personalize dishes choosing smooth pasta fatta a mano (daily handmade) or pasta artiginale (artisanal al dente texture), tossed tableside in a 60-pound Parmigiano Reggiano wheel. Ravioli al tartufo with black truffle. Tortelli di zucca with butternut squash and amaretti. Riso fritto arancini with Bolognese. Tiramisu, panna cotta, gelato. Negroni al Caffè. Bencotto Spritz with Aperol and Strega. Urban-chic design: concrete floors, steel accents, exposed ceilings, heated sidewalk patio, floor-to-ceiling windows. GBOD Hospitality Group acquired Bencotto in 2023, maintaining the handmade pasta tradition.
