Filippi's Pizza Grotto Little Italy
About
Walk through a vintage Italian deli—shelves stocked with imported Peroni, fragrant cheeses, and Chianti bottles—and you'll discover why Filippi's Pizza Grotto has been a Little Italy institution since 1950. Vincent DePhilippis and Madeleine Manfredi started with a simple Italian market in 1947, but their family recipes transformed into a 14-location empire stretching from Imperial Beach to Napa Valley, all still owned and operated by the original family. Red checkered tablecloths, hanging wine baskets, and a grotto-style dining room set the scene for generous, old-world portions. Their homemade pizza dough, marinara sauce, meatballs, and sausages follow the same recipes passed down for over 75 years. Try The Works: a monster pie loaded with eight toppings that defines Italian-American abundance.
