Luigi's At The Beach
About
Luigi Agostini grew up in his family's sandwich shop and bar in Varese, Italyājust north of Milano near the Swiss borderābefore a spontaneous plane ticket to California changed everything. After years cooking from Los Angeles to Hawaii and then San Diego, he planted his flag in Poway in 2002, followed by Golden Hill in 2004. This Mission Beach outpost extends his NYC-style pizza empire to the coast, where locals and tourists pack the indoor dining hall and sprawling patio to people-watch under heated outdoor seating with the windows open to sea air. The claim to fame? A legendary 30-inch pieāequal to 3.5 times the size of chain extra-largesāsliced into massive $7 portions that fold the way they should. Luigi's Supreme piles pepperoni, sausage, Canadian bacon, olives, bell peppers, and onions; the Portuguese Chorizo adds basil pesto and smoked chorizo; the Philly Steak gets topped with grilled beef, lettuce, and ranch. Football-sized calzones get fried then baked; lobster ravioli swims in creamy tomato sauce; and a vast draft-beer menu features local San Diego craft breweries. Casual, fun, unapologetically massiveāLuigi brought Italy and New York to the beach.
