Mr. Moto Pizza Little Italy
About
In 2015, San Diego native Gibran Fernandez opened Mr. Moto Pizza in Pacific Beach at age 23, bringing his experience from working at his uncle Aram Baloyan's La Jolla pizzeria to create authentic New York-style pizza with a West Coast twist. Within just one year, the technique—thin crust with a remarkably fluffy, chewy outer "handle"—earned Mr. Moto the title of "San Diego's Best Gourmet Pizza" in 2016, and they've held it every year since. The Little Italy location opened in 2020, taking over the corner unit that once housed the original NaPizza. Step inside and you're greeted with East Coast pizzeria vibes mixed with funky modern flair and quirky motifs unique to each location. The signature Mr. Moto pizza (Italian sausage, Spanish chorizo, burrata, and chunky tomato dots on homemade garlic paste) and their famous original stuffed garlic knots—croissant-shaped with soft interiors and crispy exteriors—draw crowds daily. The dog-friendly outdoor patio features heated, covered seating with garage doors that open for an airy feel. Beyond pizza, they serve calzones, stromboli, build-your-own pasta, wings, and sandwiches. This family-owned operation has expanded to seven San Diego locations plus Las Vegas and Phoenix.
