N Y Giant Pizza (Small Family Business)
About
When brutal New York winters finally drove this pizza-making family west in 1998, they brought recipes, technique, and forty years of restaurant experience to Mira Mesaāestablishing San Diego's first authentic New York-style pizzeria at a time when California pizza still meant Wolfgang Puck. Before Bay Park, before the 28-inch "Giant" pies that now feed families of ten, they ran a small chain back home where thin-crust pizza wasn't trendy, just tradition. The Morena Boulevard location carries that no-frills New York soul forward: bare-bones corner setup, worn tables, self-serve drinks from coolers, friends of the family scattered at booths. Daily-made dough (no eggs, no sugar, just extra virgin olive oil), highest-quality California cheese, vegetables from local farms, all hand-tossed and fired in traditional brick ovens. The Deluxe Pizzaāloaded with pepperoni, onion, sweet peppers, sausage, olives, mushroomsāremains the best seller. Five Cheese Pizza runs close second. It shows its age and wear proudly. That's the point. Real New York pizza never tried to be fancy.
