Osteria Panevino
About
Chef Vincenzo Lo Verso and Alessandro Minutella traveled from Sicily to New Jersey chasing a dream, then planted roots in San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter on June 8, 1992, building Osteria Panevino from the ground up when downtown was still finding its culinary voice. The name translates to "bread & wine"βlife's two essentials that bring everyone to the table. Thirty-three years later, Panevino stands as the Gaslamp's oldest Italian restaurant, winner of gold awards for best Italian cuisine and best family restaurant in San Diego. The Tuscan farmhouse design features terra-cotta tiles imported from Italy, exposed brick walls, colorful ceramics, chalkboard menus, and a charming patio for al fresco dining. Wood-fired pizzas emerge crisp; handcrafted pastas like Gnocchi Cacio & Pepe ($24) with black truffle and Ravioli di Aragosta ($29) with whole lobster tail showcase Vincenzo's 25+ years perfecting Sicilian recipes. The unforgettable cheese wheel pasta, Burrata Caprese ($16), fried calamari and zucchini blossoms ($19). Wine list spans $25-$900; happy hour pours $6 glasses. Panevino paved the way for culinary excellence in downtown San Diego. Reasonable prices, warm Tuscan ambiance, generations of tradition.
