When Luigi Agostini left his small hometown of Varese, Italy at age 23, he couldn't have imagined his New York-style pizza would one day catch Guy Fieri's attention on Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives. After years of cooking from Los Angeles to Hawaii, Luigi opened his first pizzeria in Poway in 2002, followed by Golden Hill in 2004. The Ocean Beach locationāwhich opened in 2021 at 5001 Newport Aveābrings Luigi's award-winning thin, foldable pies to OB's laid-back beach community. The spacious patio features picnic tables, fire pits, and sun umbrellas where locals gather for massive calzones, classic Italian subs, and that infamous El Diablo pizza Fieri created: pepperoni, sausage, meatballs, jalapeƱos, and Sriracha piled high. Open until 2am on weekends with a full bar and casual dive-bar vibe, this is NYC-style pizza done right in a beach town that never sleeps.
