Sardina's Italian Restaurant and Bar
About
Antonino and Pitrina Sardina immigrated from Sicily in 1969, opened Sardina's doors in Bay Park in 1970, and built what would become a 53-year San Diego institution. Their grandson Salvatore Brunetto and the Brunetto family took over in 1986, continuing the legacy of fine Sicilian-style Italian cuisine in a casual neighborhood setting that feels like dining with family. The brick oven turns out mouthwatering pizzas with every topping imaginableāfrom homemade Italian sausage and meatballs to artichokes, jalapeƱos, and broccoli, with gluten-free options available. Southern Italian classics dominate the menu: veal parmigiana and marsala; chicken parmigiana reviewers call "always good"; linguine with clams in red or white sauce packed with mussels; cheese ravioli; lobster ravioli in sherry cream. Fried calamari strips come "perfectly cooked not tough at all." Generous portions at reasonable prices. Full bar pouring Italian wines from Chianti to Pinot Grigio, specialty cocktails, draft beers. Daily happy hour discounts. The warm, welcoming atmosphere earned Sardina's the nickname "the Cheers of Bay Park"āa neighborhood gem consistently delivering taste, value, and that home-with-family feeling across three generations.
