Since 1997, Bronx Pizza has been San Diego's slice of the Big Apple—literally the first "pizza by the slice" joint in the city. Walk into the Mission Hills location and you're transported: New York history plastered on the walls, photos and memorabilia everywhere, and up to 18 different varieties of thin-crust New York-style pies waiting under the heat lamps. Owner keeps it old school in the best way: cash only, no frills, just damn good pizza that folds the way it should. The Empire State crowd found their home here decades ago, and everyone else has been catching on ever since. Open Wednesday through Sunday (they take Monday and Tuesday to recover from the weekend rush), this place proves that sometimes the best things are the ones that refuse to change.
