Pizza On Pearl
About
Aram Baloyan opened Pizza On Pearl in fall 2009 with recipe consultation from longtime San Diego chef Jack Monaco, bringing authentic New York-style thin crust pizza to La Jolla's Pearl Street. The pizzeria quickly earned a reputation as one of San Diego's "elite" pizza spots, becoming a local favorite for hand-tossed pies served whole or by the slice. In 2018, the space became Mr. Moto Pizza House (run by Baloyan's nephew Gibran Fernandez, who started his pizza career working here at age 23), but in 2022, Baloyan brought back the original Pizza On Pearl name and concept that locals had missed. A third-generation restaurateur with heritage spanning from Mexico to Lebanon, Baloyan also has ownership interests in The Taco Stand chain and Himitsu sushi. The family-style pizzeria prepares all sauces, dressings, and dough fresh daily, hand-cutting vegetables as needed. Their Verde pizza (spinach, ricotta, garlic paste) and stuffed garlic knots have become signatures. Ample indoor seating and an outdoor patio create an inviting atmosphere perfect for families and groups. Wallet-friendly prices and consistently crispy crusts keep La Jolla residents and beach-goers coming back.
