Arrivederci Ristorante
About
The Mastellone Family opened Arrivederci in Hillcrest's heart in 1995 with a simple philosophy: deliver honest food at reasonable prices with friendly service. That formula worked. The restaurant won "Outstanding Restaurant" at the San Diego Nicky Awards, earned Travelers' Choice recognition for ranking in TripAdvisor's top 10%, and kept winning "best Italian restaurant in San Diego" year after year for nearly three decades. The family eventually expanded into Au Revoir Bistro, Il Postino, Buon Appetito, Piacere Mio, and Sorrento, but this cozy Hillcrest original remains the cornerstone. The atmosphere transports diners straight to Tuscany and Campania through traditional Italian cuisine with modern touches: veal osso buco over mushroom risotto that reviewers call "a gift from heaven"; lobster ravioli in saffron cream sauce; rigatoni bolognese with mascarpone; thin-crust pizzas and calzones. California and Italian wines span from Chianti to Barolo to Amarone. The "Speciali del giorno" menu showcases chef creativity, while nuova cucina Italiana principles guide the kitchen—more vegetables, less fat, no preservatives. Generous portions, attentive service, quaint and cozy dining: Arrivederci delivers on that 1995 promise.
