When Hillcrest Brewing Company opened in June 2012 to honor the 43rd anniversary of the Stonewall Inn Uprising, it claimed a historic first: the world's openly gay brewery. Part of Mo's Universe hospitality family, it served house-brewed beers for eight years before COVID-19 shifted operations to supporting San Diego's independent breweries across 24 taps while keeping favorite recipes like Crotch Rocket Irish Red—bronze winner at 2014 Best of Craft Beer Awards—flowing.
